Cagamas Berhad, represented by its President/Chief Executive Officer, Encik Kameel Abdul Halim, Chief Technology & Operations Officer, Mr. Tan Yong Nien, and Strategic Communications officer, Ms. Nur Adlina Mohd Nooramin Kaw, attended The International Affordable, Green & Resilient Housing Conference (“Conference”) and the Asian Secondary Mortgage Market Association (“ASMMA”) Annual Meeting in Islamabad, Pakistan. The two-day event hosted by the Pakistan Mortgage Refinance Company Limited (“PMRC”) brought together ASMMA members, key stakeholders, regulators, and industry experts from across Asia to discuss innovative solutions for financing affordable, green, and resilient housing. The Conference focused on addressing challenges such as rising construction costs and the impacts of climate change while sharing best practices and strategies for affordable housing development.
Encik Kameel was a panellist in the session titled "Key Challenges for Informal and Low-Income Housing Segment: Regional Perspectives on Challenges and Solutions”, where he highlighted significant contributions by Cagamas in providing liquidity to financial institutions and promoting home ownership through sustainability bonds and sukuk. Challenges however persist, a mismatch between housing supply and demand, particularly for affordable housing. The need for innovative solutions and partnerships to tackle issues in informal and low-income housing segments is crucial. Cagamas’ initiatives such as the First Home Mortgage Guarantee Programme and Reverse Mortgage Scheme demonstrate its commitment to addressing housing affordability and ensuring financial inclusivity.
On the sidelines of the Conference, PMRC hosted the ASMMA Annual Meeting, which emphasised sharing product knowledge, best practices, and discussing critical challenges and opportunities in affordable housing finance within member countries.
